I turned an in a single day fan of Charli XCX a lil over a 12 months in the past (on the discharge date of my final album April 2022). I performed an in-store at Tough Commerce East London and her poster lined your entire entrance door. I flew house the following morning listening to my newly acquired CRASH cd again and again (by way of a discman, naturally!)
…I turned my daughters on as quickly as I obtained house and yeah we’ve been tremendous followers ever since. No disrespect (and complete respect!) to the Angels who’ve been Charli followers for the reason that starting… however that stated me and my daughters Awilda (13) and Delphine (10) know most of her catalog by coronary heart at this level (on fixed repeat!) and that’s only a testomony to how wonderful and infectious (and delightful!) her songs are.
Once I was requested to document a Charli XCX tune in honor of her Ivors Visionary Award (!!!) my mind stored going again to “Fixed Repeat” which hit me hardest first (again then on that flight), it’s such a killer… whereas understanding it’d be no simple feat and I used to be nervous however hey…
I positively couldn’t’ve accomplished this tune any justice alone in order that’s why my ladies sang their hearts out with me, so… I needed to sluggish my model down a lil, possibly overlook a chord or two, play some mellow acoustic gtr (and shoegaze electrics!) and maintain it chill in my wheelhouse.
There’s just one Charli and I can’t contact her model, we are able to solely try to pay homage… I’m relieved it sounds completely different than the unique… tho my daughters obtained her melody down fairly nice, gotta say, and yeah Charli is simply our favest.
