Paul McCartney Announces New Photo Book 1964: Eyes of the Storm

Paul McCartney is releasing a pictures ebook compiling 275 of his snapshots taken between the top of 1963 and the start of 1964—when Beatlemania was turning into a worldwide phenomenon. 1964: Eyes of the Storm can be revealed June 13 by Liveright/W. W. Norton. The 35mm pictures are McCartney’s private report of the time, and seize the Beatles’ travels by way of Liverpool, London, Paris, New York, Washington, D.C., and Miami. 1964: Eyes of the Storm consists of a number of never-before-seen portraits of John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, in addition to a foreword by McCartney, an introduction by Harvard historian and New Yorker essayist Jill Lepore, a Preface by Nicholas Cullinan, Director of the Nationwide Portrait Gallery, London, and an essay by Senior Curator Rosie Broadley. The method of making the ebook started in 2020, when a trove of almost 1,000 of McCartney’s images had been re-discovered in his archive.

“Anybody who rediscovers a private relic or household treasure is immediately flooded with reminiscences and feelings, which then set off associations buried within the haze of time,” McCartney wrote in press supplies. “This was precisely my expertise in seeing these pictures, all taken over an intense three-month interval of journey, culminating in February 1964.” He continued:
