Nigerian Afrobeats star Seun Kuti was arrested Monday (Might 15) after being accused of assaulting a police officer within the business hub of Lagos.
Kuti was detained on the Lagos State police headquarters after turning himself in, in accordance with police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin, who tweeted images of the celeb in handcuffs.
The son of Nigerian musical icon and political agitator Fela Kuti, who himself was serially detained by Nigerian army regimes, Seun Kuti was “captured on video assaulting a police officer in uniform,” the police stated.
Movies posted on-line appeared to indicate an agitated Kuti pushing a police officer because the officer stood beside a police car alongside a significant highway in Lagos on Saturday.
It was unclear what led to the confrontation, although Kuti tweeted that the officer in query “tried to kill me and my household.” He prompt the officer tried to ram their automobile.
Inspector Basic of Police Usman Alkali Baba ordered an investigation into the incident.
