In 2021, the Weeknd was sued for copyright infringement over his 2018 My Expensive Melancholy, music “Name Out My Identify.” Producers Suniel Fox and Henry Unusual claimed the Weeknd and co-defendants Nicolás Jaar and Frank Dukes had infringed on their music “Vibeking.” The lawsuit claimed that the 2 songs have been “strikingly and/or considerably related, if not equivalent” and cited a number of alleged similarities.
On March 17, Fox and Unusual’s attorneys filed in courtroom that the 2 sides have reached a settlement. Pitchfork has reached out to the Weeknd’s representatives and the producers’ attorneys for remark.
When the lawsuit was first filed, Jaar clarified that he didn’t have a hand within the creation of “Name Out My Identify”—simply that the music featured an interpolation of his music from 2016’s Sirens, “Killing Time.”
