The seminal musician has handed away on the age of 59, following a prolonged battle with pancreatic most cancers.
His former bandmate Johnny Marr introduced the unhappy information on Friday (19.05.23), writing: “It’s with deep unhappiness that we announce the passing of Andy Rourke after a prolonged sickness with pancreatic most cancers.
“Andy shall be remembered as a form and exquisite soul by those that knew him and as a supremely gifted musician by music followers.
“We request privateness at this unhappy time.”
Because the information broke, there’s been an enormous outpouring of affection for Andy.
Tim Burgess of The Charlatans remembered Andy as massively inspirational as a bassist, and likewise for organising the star-studded Manchester V Most cancers charity live performance in 2006.
He wrote: “Such unhappy unhappy information about Andy Rourke – He was an inspirational musician with a method that made so many people choose up a bass guitar; and the driving drive for Manchester Versus Most cancers. Our ideas are with everybody who knew him. Journey effectively x.”
Suede bassist Mat Osman tweeted: “Aw man. RIP Andy Rourke. A complete one-off – a uncommon bassist whose sound you possibly can recognise right away.
“I keep in mind so clearly enjoying that Barbarism break time and again, making an attempt to be taught the riff, and marvelling at this steely funk driving the monitor alongside.”
The Smiths’ producer Stephen Road wrote: “Andy was an excellent musician and a beautiful man. I ship my deepest condolences and ideas to his family and friends. RIP.”
Johnny shaped the ‘This Charming Man’ group with frontman Morrissey in 1982, and the previous’s childhood pal Andy joined after their first live performance.
Andy’s signature type was on the beating coronary heart of the legendary Manchester band’s melodic again catalogue that has gone on to encourage the likes of The Killers and The 1975.
Amongst many different musical escapades Andy Rourke shaped Blitz Vega alongside frontman and guitarist Kav Sandhu of the Joyful Mondays.
